The Evolution of House Cats

Life's Abundance

Your cat’s low thirst drive was inherited from its desert ancestor.

From the sunbaked sands of ancient deserts to the cozy corners of your living room, the house cat's journey is nothing short of miraculous. This fascinating evolution reveals that your fluffy companion hasn't strayed far from its wild ancestors after all. Let's dive into the kitty gene pool and discover the wild within your cat!

What Did House Cats Evolve From?

The domestic house cat started its tale as a free-roaming wildcat in the sprawling deserts of the Near East between 70,000 and 100,000 years ago. These original wildcats weren’t the cuddly pets we know today. Instead, they lived in the wild, hunting and surviving independently.

Some people think humans chose to bring cats into their homes because they were friendly. But it's more likely cats started hanging around humans on their own.

Why? Well, wherever there are humans, there are usually mice and other small creatures looking for food. Wildcats saw an opportunity for easy, consistent meals and decided to stick around. It was a win-win for both species since humans didn’t mind less vermin in their grain stashes, and the cats got full bellies.

Did you know? While we've tried to tame the wilderness out of many animals, cats have managed to keep their wild spirit, along with their independence, making them unique among domesticated animals.

Traits from the Desert

Even though they live in our homes now, kitties still have some cool survival skills from the old days. Let's look at how they’re similar to their desert-dwelling grandparents.

Staying hydrated is still super important.
In the desert, cats rarely get a chance to drink water. So cats learned to get most of their water from their food. This trait is also vital for our house cats, which is why wet foods like Instinctive Choice are so important. It helps ensure they get enough water, keeping them healthy and happy. It provides the hydration your cat needs, all in a tasty and healthy way!

They’re great at surviving on their own.
They can find food and protect themselves, which shows they are still very independent. This skill comes from their ancestors who lived in the desert and had to be smart to survive. While desert cats are small, making it easier to sneak up on prey, your little predator shares that same knack for finding and catching their meals (even if it is just a toy mouse).

They have a sophisticated way of hanging out together and communicating.
Your feline friend might not live in big groups like their ancestors, but they still are protective of their tribe. They do eventually warm up and can get along with most other cats and humans. This social nature helps them fit into our families perfectly.

They share camouflage patterns.
Desert cats' fur blends into their sandy homes, helping them hide from danger and stalk prey. Our house cats might not need to hide in the living room, but their wide range of coat patterns and colors can be traced back to this need for stealth and survival.

They have large, pointy (and cute) ears.
These help desert cats hear the slightest sounds, giving them a head start on hunting or hiding. Domestic cats also use their ears to stay alert, proving that listening well is crucial - whether in the desert or the den!

The Rise of the Skinimalist

Life's Abundance

Applying minimalism to your skin care routine contributes to your overall well-being.

Remember the time you tried to whip up a gourmet meal and ended up with a mountain of pots and pans, yet a simple sandwich would have done the trick? That's what's happening in the skin care world right now. We've all been there, seduced by the latest 10-step skin care routine promising porcelain perfection. But let's be real – who has the time or the bathroom counter space?

Enter New Wave Skinimalism: the skin care equivalent of finding that one perfect pair of jeans that goes with everything. Get ready to embrace the joy of simplicity and radiant, happy skin with just a few high-quality, effective essentials. Your skin will thank you!

What is Skinimalism?

The skin care world has been a battleground for the past three years. On one side, the Korean glass skin trend champions the ‘more the merrier' approach, requiring an elaborate, multi-step routine (complete with double-cleansing). But on the other side, more grounded practitioners are voicing a different mantra: less is more.

This debate has set the stage for the emergence of skinimalism. But skinimalism isn't just a trend - it's a movement towards a more sustainable, effective, and skin-friendly approach.

Here's what makes up the core of skinimalism:

  • Quality over quantity. Opt for high-quality, effective products rather than rolling the dice on a clutter of just average tubes and jars.
  • Streamlined routines. Emphasize a few impactful steps over an overwhelming regimen.
  • Ingredient awareness. Prioritize brands with potent, beneficial ingredients and avoid unnecessary fillers.
  • Sustainable choices. Choose cleansers, moisturizers and serums that are good for both your skin and the environment.
  • Personalization. Tailor your minimal routine to suit your unique skin needs.

In this ongoing 'war' in skin care, skinimalism emerges as the clear winner for many, offering a mindful, more sustainable approach to skin health and beauty.

The Science of Skinimalism

Think of your skin as a soloist in an orchestra. Just as a solo can be drowned out by more than one instrument playing, your skin gets overwhelmed when bombarded with double-digit steps. Each serum, cream, or lotion is like an instrument in your skin care song - too many and the melody gets lost.

Cutting your skin care back to just a few premium items lets your skin take center stage. Interestingly enough, this simple approach is part of larger, science-backed research. Minimalism benefits not just your skin but your overall well-being, leading to better health and more fulfillment.[1]

This all goes to show: Adopting a minimalist skin care approach is more than skin deep. It's part of a mindful lifestyle that values intentional choices for your overall well-being. We hope this trend stays because it puts emphasis on quality in every aspect of life - something we’re all about!

  3. Pour batter into a greased, microwave-safe mug with enough room for the cake to rise.
  4. Make a small divot in the middle of the batter and pour in the chocolate chips.
  5. Microwave for 45 seconds, and then at 10-second increments until cooked with a fluffy and firm texture. (Be careful! The mug will be hot.)

Here's a list of the top ten most notorious shedders:

  1. Akita
  2. Alaskan Malamute
  3. Siberian Husky
  4. German Shepherd
  5. American Eskimo
  6. Bernese Mountain Dog
  7. Chow Chow
  8. Golden Retriever
  9. Saint Bernard
  10. Great Pyrenees

And that’s the canine royalty of shedding! Each of these breeds brings its own unique blend of love, joy, and, yes, a whole lot of hair. Shedding might be a natural part of life with our furry friends, but it doesn't have to be a nightmare. Read on to get our hacks that make living with your beloved shedder a little easier.

Dog Shedding Tips to Save Your Sanity

With a few clever dog shedding tips, you can manage the fuzz and keep your home looking sharp - and maybe save your black pants in the process!

Focus on a healthy diet.

A healthy coat begins within - and starts in your dog’s diet. Our top recommendation for a shiny, healthy coat is to add Omega-3s to their diet. These friendly fatty acids not only enhance their coat's health but may also reduce the amount of hair left around your home.

Try supplements for dogs.

But hey, let’s be real - playing doggy dietitian every day can be a pain. Just like you embrace supplements to make your own health easy and convenient, your dog can also get health-boosting benefits for their coat from targeted supplements.

  • Skin & Coat Soft Chews: These are like all-in-one super smoothie for a dog’s skin and coat. These easy-to-feed chews are enriched with a blend of vital vitamins and Omega-3s, giving your fluff ball a well-rounded supplement that makes their coat worth barking for. It's the easy, tasty way to keep your dog’s coat shiny - and your home less hairy!
  • Biotin Supplements: Biotin, often hailed as a hair and skin savior in human health, works wonders for dogs too. It strengthens hair and nails, making it a perfect pick for your pup’s coat.
  • Probiotic Supplements: Like yogurt in our diet, probiotics for dogs support gut health, which is surprisingly linked to skin and coat health. A healthy gut often means a healthy coat, and that’s why we include probiotics in our pet foods.

Incorporating these supplements into your dog's diet is a simple step towards a healthier, shinier coat, and most importantly, can get you closer to a fur-free home.

Life's Abundance

Life’s Abundance Skin & Coat soft chews for dogs help maintain a healthy coat.

Increase your dog’s water intake.

Keep that bowl full, as pups need about an ounce of water per pound of body weight daily. That means a ten-pound pooch needs just over a cup of H2O a day. Hydration keeps their skin happy and shedding at bay. No more wondering why there's a fur festival at home - it's a hydration celebration to reduce the fluff!

Regular grooming is essential.

Arm yourself with a trusty brush and make grooming a fun ritual. You can even put on some tunes and brush to the beat to make it a real party. Remember, this is quality bonding time, so make it count.

It’s also a good idea to invest in a de-shedding tool. Pro groomers use these all the time - that means you know it will work. Tools like these don't just remove loose fur. They’re like magic wands that make hair disappear (at least temporarily)!

Get a vacuum specifically designed for pet hair.

Let’s face it. Your regular vacuum just can't keep up. Pet hair is tough on these machines, but a vacuum designed just for pet hair is a game-changer. You’ll become like the Ghostbusters for fur, ensuring no strand is left behind. Investing in one means a cleaner home, a longer-lasting vacuum, and a happier you. You can ditch your fur-clogged vacuums and say hello to easier cleaning.

Embrace the Shed

As we wrap up our furry journey, remember: managing your beloved shedder is all about the right blend of care, from choosing a well-rounded diet to grooming rituals. Each brush stroke, every water bowl refill, and each chewable supplement are steps towards a healthier, less hairy home.

We hope these tips help you navigate all the furry challenges and cherish the joys of life with your best friend. Let's celebrate every aspect of our pets' lives - fur, fun, and all!

From Sea to Seed: Take a Deep Dive into Omega-3s

Life's Abundance

Life’s Abundance premium Omega-3 fish oil supplement is an easy way to get more healthy fats in your diet.

Omega-3 fatty acids are more than just a health buzzword; they're essential fats that play crucial roles in our body, from supporting brain health to maintaining cardiovascular wellness. But what does that mean for you?

First things first, meet the fatty acid trio: DHA, EPA, and ALA. If you find this alphabet soup confusing, we’ll help you demystify their benefits, where to find them, and how to use them effectively in your diet. Quick tip: Just because a food shouts, "I'm rich in omega-3!" on the label, it doesn't mean it's a VIP pass to DHA and EPA paradise.

Whether you're a seafood lover, a vegetarian, or someone who prefers supplements, get ready to dive into the sea of omega-3 knowledge and emerge with a treasure trove of information that will empower you to make healthier choices. Let's get started!

DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid)

Where to Find Them
DHA and EPA are primarily found in fatty fish. These two omega-3 fatty acids are the stars of the show when it comes to health benefits. They’re responsible for many of the positive effects that omega-3s have in your body.

Why They Matter
They play crucial roles in brain health, cardiovascular function, and overall wellness. Research shows these fatty acids are particularly beneficial for people with cardiovascular diseases and ADHD.

Best Sources
The best sources of DHA and EPA are:

  • Salmon
  • Herring
  • Sardines
  • Mackerel

These not only provide a rich supply of omega-3s but are also great protein sources. However, there's a catch (pun intended)! Our oceans and waterways are increasingly polluted, leading to fish contamination.

How to Use Them
Our oceanic friends are facing significant challenges due to pollution, with contaminants like methylmercury, PCBs, arsenic, and DDT affecting their habitats. However, if you're a seafood enthusiast looking to source your omega-3s from fish, there's no need to worry. You can make informed choices by consulting reliable resources.

A great place to start is the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch, which offers guidance on sustainable seafood choices. Additionally, for the cleanest and safest options, it's also wise to refer to the Environmental Defense Fund and the Environmental Protection Agency, as they provide updated recommendations and information on fish consumption. By doing this homework, you can enjoy your seafood while supporting environmentally friendly practices.

Life's Abundance

Omega-3 supplements can help provide DHA and EPA which are fatty acids found in cold water fish.

ALA (Alpha-Linolenic Acid)

Where to Find It
Alpha-linolenic Acid (ALA) is the omega-3 fatty acid found in plant sources. It's an essential nutrient, especially for those who prefer a plant-based diet. Unlike its counterparts, DHA and EPA, ALA is accessible in a wider range of common foods.

Why It Matters
ALA plays a vital role as the starting point for omega-3 fatty acids in our body. Although it's not as directly beneficial as DHA and EPA, ALA is crucial for maintaining a balanced diet, especially for vegetarians and vegans. It's important for overall health and, though the body can only process a small amount when converted to DHA and EPA, contributes to the benefits associated with these fatty acids.

Best Sources
The champions of ALA are flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, which are incredibly rich in this nutrient. Other great sources include:

  • Chia seeds
  • Walnuts
  • Hemp seeds
  • Plant oils like canola and soybean oil

These sources are not only rich in omega-3s but also bring additional nutrients and benefits to your diet, making them an excellent choice for anyone looking to boost their omega-3 intake naturally.

How to Use Them
Incorporating these foods into your diet can be both delicious and beneficial. Sprinkle ground flaxseed on your oatmeal, toss chia seeds into your smoothie, snack on some walnuts, or use walnut oil in your salad dressings. With these simple additions, you'll enhance your diet with essential ALA and enjoy a variety of delicious flavors.

Fish Oil Supplements: A Convenient Alternative

If you'd rather skip the dinner plate altogether, omega-3 supplements from fish oil are your trusty sidekick. They’re a popular way to get your DHA and EPA without worrying about dietary sources. Easy to take and offering a potent omega-3 punch, a lot of people like the convenience and efficacy of fish oil capsules. However, the quality of fish oil supplements can vary.

When shopping for premium fish oil supplements, check if the fish oil has been purified and concentrated to remove contaminants. Look for products tested for quality, purity, and concentration by independent bodies like the International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS). Transparency is key, and reputable companies should publish their test results.

So, whether you're serving fish up for dinner or popping omega-3 capsules, make informed choices, and your health will thank you!

The Beginner’s Guide to Dog Supplements

Life's Abundance

From joint health to skin and coat support, dog supplements can provide additional nutrition for specific health concerns.

Imagine a world where each tail wag from your furry friend is brighter, every jump is more joyful, and each bark is a healthy celebration. This isn't just a sweet dream - it's a very achievable reality for dog owners who focus on optimal nutrition by adding supplements to their dog’s regimen.

In this guide, we'll explore the ever-growing universe of dog supplements, including the what, why, and how of these nutritional power-ups. It's time to dig a little deeper and see what’s behind these healthy heroes and how they can help even a senior dog feel more puppy-like.

What Are Dog Supplements?

So, what exactly are dog supplements? Just like humans might take vitamin D in winter or probiotics for gut health, dog supplements are designed to target specific areas like joint health, digestion, or skin and coat quality. Most are specially formulated and designed to complement your dog's diet, filling nutritional gaps and addressing specific health needs.

Dog supplements are like the Robin to your dog's Batman - the essential sidekick in their health journey. But it's a jungle out there in the supplement world, and not all products are made with your pup's best interests at heart. Beware of supplements filled with undesirable ingredients like:

  • Cornstarch
  • Corn
  • Wheat
  • Soy
  • Artificial coloring
  • Artificial flavors

The best supplements are those made with high-quality ingredients, free of artificial additives and fillers. This ensures your dog gets the pure goodness of what they need and nothing they don't.

Further, it's not just about the 'what' in your dog’s supplements but the 'how.' Ingredients are important, but how they synergistically work together is the key to seeing actual results.

Why Do Dogs Need Supplements?

Ever wondered what's going through your dog's mind when they give you those puppy eyes? They might not be able to say it, but they could be trying to tell you something about their health. As a pet parent, it's up to you to find out what they need. So put on your detective cap!

Let's look at the clues for why your dog might need supplements:

  • Age and temperament. Whether it's a bouncy puppy, a wise senior, or an always-on-the-go breed, your dog may have different nutritional needs at each stage of life. With the addition of supplements, you can support them through every leap and nap.
  • Health indicators. Is your fur baby itching more than usual or moving a little slower than they used to? Their skin might be irritated, or those joints may be a little creaky. These signs could be your dog's way of saying, "Hey, I need a little help here!"
  • Lifestyle. Dogs sensitive to stress or with nervous personalities can benefit from extra nutritional support. Additionally, geographical differences can impact your pet's skin and joint health. In dryer climates, supplements that promote healthy skin can counteract dryness, while in colder regions, those that support aging joints can maintain mobility and comfort.

Remember: High-quality food is the first place to start if you want to improve your dog’s nutrition. Dog supplements can enhance what's already in their diet with essential vitamins, minerals, and specific nutrients that cater to their unique health requirements. Think of supplements as the secret sauce to your pup's health recipe to level up their overall well-being.

What Supplements Do Dogs Need?

There are two health areas that are popular concerns among pet parents and the reason for a great deal of vet visits.

Skin & Coat Supplements

A glossy coat and vibrant skin aren't just beauty goals - they're signs of your dog's well-being.

Here's what to look for in a supplement to give your furry friend that superstar glow:

  • Omega-3s & Vitamin E: The dynamic duo for lustrous skin and coat.
  • B Vitamins: Supercharging other ingredients behind the scenes.
  • Vitamin A & C: Key players in skin resilience.

With these ingredients, your dog’s coat will not only shine brighter but also feel softer while their skin stays supple and less prone to irritation. It’s the perfect combo for turning your beloved pet into the talk of the dog park and keeping them Insta-ready.

Agility Supplements

Did you know dogs are considered ‘senior’ at age seven? Don’t worry - helping your aging dog maintain their puppy-like bounce is simpler than you think, especially with a top-notch joint support supplement.

Let's break down the essentials you should be looking for in a joint supplement for dogs:

  • Glucosamine: The cornerstone for joint and cartilage health.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Acts like a cushion for easy, healthy movement.
  • MSM & Sea Mussels: Support musculoskeletal health.
  • Vitamin C & E: Maintain healthy joint function.

With these ingredients, your dog's joints will be well-nourished, flexible, and ready for all the playful adventures that come their way. It’s about giving them the freedom to jump, run, and enjoy their golden years with all the ease and comfort they deserve.

Choosing the right supplement for your dog is like picking the perfect accessory for an outfit - it should bridge the gap between 'good' and 'great' in your dog's diet. Finding the right one can be the difference between just a regular day and a tail-wagging, park-running, all-around pawsome day. Here's to a future filled with healthy coats and joyful jumps!

Is Venison in Dog Food Good For Dogs?

Absolutely! Venison in dog food can be a great choice for dogs of all life stages, from weaning puppies to aging seniors who may be picky about what they eat. This lean, red meat is delicious and packed with protein, essential for your dog’s muscle growth.

Venison is also low in fat, making it a superb pick for maintaining a healthy weight. Plus, it's a novel protein source, reducing the risk of allergies. Venison could be the key to making your dog's meals both delicious and nutritious.

What Do Dog Food Allergies Look Like?

Like a detective following clues to solve a mystery, dog food allergies leave behind telltale signs that need deciphering. The symptoms to look out for include:

  • Persistent scratching
  • Nibbling on their paws
  • Shaking their head
  • Red, irritated skin
  • Ear infections
  • Tummy troubles like vomiting or diarrhea

If your pup is showing these signs, it’s time to figure out what's causing their discomfort. Remember, a vet's guidance is invaluable in solving any itchy or upset tummy mysteries.

Life's Abundance

Life’s Abundance Pork & Venison Recipe is a premium source of novel proteins, full of flavor and made for sensitive stomachs.

What Does Limited-Ingredient Dog Food Mean?

A "limited-ingredient" recipe refers to a meal that uses a minimal number of components, often focusing on simplicity and avoiding complex mixtures of ingredients. This approach is particularly helpful for dogs with food allergies or sensitivities, as it reduces the chances of including something that might trigger an allergic reaction. With fewer ingredients, it's easier to identify which one might be causing a problem.

Finding allergy-friendly meals for your dog is like being a chef at a canine gourmet restaurant. Start with a novel protein source - think venison, pork, or lamb- something your dog hasn't had before. Then, add easily digestible carbs like sweet potatoes, lentil flour, or rice. To top it all off, add a splash of omega-rich oils for a shiny coat and resilient skin. And don’t forget all the vital vitamins and minerals!

Every dog is unique, so a recipe that's a hit for one might not be for another. Experiment, have fun, and watch your furry food critic enjoy.

What Food Can Dogs Be Allergic To?

Just like us, dogs can have their own no-no foods. What are the usual suspects?

  • Dairy
  • Wheat
  • Egg
  • Chicken
  • Corn
  • Soy

Remember, what might cause a reaction in one dog might not in another. It's all about knowing your pup and sometimes playing a game of trial and error. If you suspect your furry friend is reacting to their dinner, a chat with the vet can help find the root cause of their reaction.

Is Wet Food Good For Senior Dogs?

This is a resounding YES! As dogs age, they may become picky eaters. Wet food is easier for them to chew and super tasty, helping to keep their appetite up. It's also a sneaky way to keep them hydrated, which is crucial for older dogs. Plus, it's generally easier to digest and can be gentler on those senior doggy stomachs. So, for keeping your golden oldie happy and healthy, wet food gets two paws up from us!

How Often Should Dogs Have Wet Food?

There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but a good rule of thumb is to consider your dog's age, health, and preferences. Some dogs thrive on a daily dose of wet food, while others might enjoy it as an occasional treat. Wet food can be especially helpful for hydration and is often more enticing for picky eaters. Mixing wet food with dry kibble can give your dog the best of both worlds - crunch and smoothness in every bite!

Integrating venison into your dog's diet can be a game-changing decision for their health and well-being. Whether you have a playful puppy, an active adult, or a wise senior dog, the benefits of venison, with its high-quality protein and low-fat content, are numerous.

By picking high-quality canned food, you’re giving them something special that supports their well-being. Here’s to finding that perfect meal plan that makes your dog’s tail wag a little harder and their days a bit brighter. After all, isn't that what being a great pet parent is all about?

Do Probiotics Actually Help Your Immune System?

Life's Abundance

Probiotics supplements can help your family stay well during cold and flu season.

Have you ever wondered if all those yogurt ads were on to something with all their talk about probiotics? Well, you’re in for a treat! In this article, we’re meshing a true probiotic success story with some eye-opening scientific research.

As cold and flu season rolls in, we want to shed light on the potential benefits of probiotics in supporting your immune system. Yes, it’s true! Probiotics could be your secret wellness weapon to staying healthy. Find out why they’ve become a favorite among health enthusiasts and doctors alike, and explore the world of the immune-supporting, microscopic bacteria everyone is talking about.

A Real-Life Probiotic Success Story

Our journey begins with a relatable tale from one of our very own employee-owners. It’s a story of family health challenges and the noticeable change brought about by a probiotic supplement. Read on to hear how one simple change made the biggest difference in a family’s overall health.

“I have a beautiful 5-year-old daughter who’s been in and out of daycare for a few years, and she would get sick every other week. She’d either have a fever, a cough, or a runny nose - but most of the time, all three. And, of course, she'd give whatever germs she brought home to the rest of the family. ”

How many parents can relate?

He goes on to detail the recovery process from one of these persistent colds: “My daughter seemed to bounce back rather quickly, but once I would catch it, it would take a very long time to recuperate. I tried everything from sleeping in a different room when she would have one of her all-night-long coughing spells, but it wouldn’t help. I’d always end up getting sick.”

So how did he break this never-ending cycle of Pre-K germ invasions?

“When my daughter turned five last year, and we were preparing her to enter Kindergarten, we knew she’d be exposed to even more germs than ever before. I made it a point to start taking Life's Abundance probiotics; it has been a miracle worker. In the past, when my daughter was sick, she'd spend the night in our bed, and I would get sick. Now that I’ve boosted my immune system, I wake up completely unphased. It’s worked so well that I think it’s time to start including it in my daughter’s routine, too! ”

Yes, you read that right. Probiotics were the key to improving his overall health and have the potential to safeguard his family.

And for all the doubters out there, we’re happy to share that science backs up the power of probiotics. A rigorous study in 2018 exposed the immune-supporting effects of these little gut-friendly supplements.

The Groundbreaking Study in a Nutshell

In this super cool study, researchers invited a bunch of adults who were, unfortunately, catching colds way too often (like four or more times a year, yikes!). They were given a probiotic drink concocted with not one, not two, but three different types of good bacteria.

For 12 whole weeks, these participants enjoyed their special drink, turning themselves into probiotic-sipping machines. And it worked! The probiotic group saw a big drop in those pesky colds and flu-like symptoms. It turns out probiotics were giving their immune system a super boost.

Life's Abundance

Life’s Abundance premium probiotic supplement contains 25 billion CFUs to help support your overall immune health.

How Probiotics Help Your Immune System

Two major, eye-opening findings proved probiotic supplementation can:

  1. Reduce cold and flu symptoms. Participants who sipped on the probiotic drink had fewer instances of upper respiratory infections. That means fewer days of feeling miserable with a cold!
  2. Increase immune markers in your body.* This means a big spike in good players for your body's defense team, which equals a stronger immune response to viruses and colds. [1]

All that to say, this is a big win for the probiotic team! This study shows consuming probiotics can definitely give your system a leg up in the immune game.

Choosing the Right Probiotic: 25 Billion CFUs

Before you run off to stock your fridge with probiotic drinks, keep in mind that not all probiotics are created equal. The study mentioned above used specific strains of Lactobacillus in hefty doses. So, if you're looking to replicate these benefits, you'll need to choose your probiotics wisely.

The precise composition of our 25 billion CFU probiotic supplement is a testament to this. Featuring strains like Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Bifidobacterium bifidum, our formula stands apart in its potential to improve your health.

Studies show the remarkable abilities of these strains, from alleviating symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis [2] and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) [3]*. While more research is essential to fully understand their impact on respiratory infections, the current findings underscore the power of these small but mighty warriors.

So next time you see one of those yogurt commercials, think about the awesome benefits of probiotics. Why not try our supplements and experience these benefits yourself without the yogurt? Every time you take a supplement, you're supporting your daily routine and giving your body a boost of potent probiotic power. And remember, a happy gut is a happy you!

News Alert: Pet Food Recalls Affecting Infants

Life's Abundance

Recent pet food recalls highlight pets are part of our families, and keeping them safe helps protect the rest of your family.

Please note: No Life’s Abundance products are included in this or any other recall.

In the world of pet care, hearing about product recalls can be unsettling, especially when they're not widely publicized. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in one such critical situation now, where the stakes are high - not just for our pets but also for the youngest members of our families.

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported seven human illnesses linked to a specific pet food recall by the FDA. Alarmingly, six of these cases involved children aged one year or younger.

This raises a significant red flag about the potential impact of pet food recalls on your entire household’s safety. In this blog, we'll tell you what you need to know, immediate actions you can take, and how Life's Abundance is proactively addressing these events to ensure your peace of mind.

Who’s Affected & What You Need to Know

This recall, an expansion of earlier ones initiated on September 3 and October 30, 2023, involves a range of pet foods. As of November 1, seven reported cases of illness linked to this issue have been reported in seven different states, predominantly affecting infants.

Mid America Pet Food issued the recall, and it includes several brands (list updated as of November 12, 2023):

  • Victor Super Premium Dog Food: 17 varieties, 57 products
  • Victor Super Premium Cat Food: 3 varieties, 8 products
  • Wayne Feeds Gold Dog Food: 6 varieties
  • Wayne Feeds Gold Cat Food: 2 varieties
  • Eagle Mountain Pet Food for Dogs: 1 variety
  • Member’s Mark Dog Food: 2 varieties

The contamination in question is Salmonella, found in these dog and cat food varieties. Salmonella is a bacteria causing infection in pets and people. Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and lethargy in pets and abdominal cramps, fever, and diarrhea in humans.

3 Immediate Actions You Can Take

Here are three things you can do right now if you suspect you, your pets, or your family have come in contact with one pet foods above:

  1. The FDA and CDC recommend disposing of the affected products immediately.
  2. Clean and disinfect anything that comes into contact with the food.
  3. For a comprehensive, up-to-date list of affected products, you should visit the FDA’s website.

At Life’s Abundance, we take a proactive stance. Our quick notification system and stringent controls ensure your family’s safety and the quality of our pet foods, from manufacturing to when it's delivered to your door. This incident, though unfortunate, underscores the importance of vigilance in pet food manufacturing and consumer awareness - and we’re on top of it!

A Misguided Notion

There's a new, emerging belief, even among some manufacturers, that pets can resist Salmonella more effectively than humans, implying a minimal risk in their food. This assumption has gained traction with the popularity of raw diets for pets, but it ignores important points.

While dogs are generally more resistant to Salmonella than humans, this doesn't mean they’re immune. It's important to state this clearly: Even if your pet doesn't show symptoms, they can still be a carrier of Salmonella and potentially spread the bacteria to humans and other animals in your household.

This recent incident highlights the reality that our pets are part of our families, and keeping them safe helps protect the rest of your family.

To Our Customers: Stay Alert and Informed

While these situations are concerning, they also remind us of the importance of staying up-to-date for the sake of our furry friends and families.
