This holiday season, we’re especially pleased to bring you news of yet another financial award given by the Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation, this time to an inspirational organization of animal rescuers in Pennsylvania.

Better Days Animal League is a non-profit animal rescue organization that was established in the summer of 2007. In their short time on the scene, they have helped to rescue and find forever homes for hundreds of animals in need.

The folks at this wonderful organization coordinate their efforts with local government officials and other local rescue organizations to further their primary mission, which is to be a strong advocate for animals. In fact, they are absolutely dedicated to the principle that all life must be treated with value, dignity and respect.

Currently, they have 236 dogs and cats in residence in their two shelters, located in Shippensburg and Chambersburg. In Shippensburg, they have several buildings with 38 runs for canines (12 of which are for dogs with special needs), a dedicated puppy room, and two extensive areas for cats. On the Chambersburg property, where they recently took over an animal sanctuary, there are 40 dog runs and an open area for cats in a newly constructed building. Thanks to the tireless and determined efforts of their “volunteer army”, Better Days Animal League keeps their animals safe, socialized and happy.

Aside from their inspirational efforts to create a better life for the dogs and cats who enter their rescue, Better Days has assumed the mantle of educators, teaching the local population about the humane treatment of all animals, as well as working to end pet overpopulation through low-cost spay/neuter services. As a group of committed individuals, Better Days fervently hopes for a future where all animals are treated humanely, where all pets live in loving homes and where euthanasia is no longer the part of the strategy for pet population control.

When it comes to generating revenue, Better Days has been very proactive. In fact, they opened a new thrift store on December 9th, where 100% of the proceeds go to caring for their animals. Thanks to previous efforts, they are able to cover a substantial portion of the costs of their operation. But those funds, in conjunction with adoption fees, still only cover a fraction of their total expenses. Without individual donations and corporate giving, their rescue efforts would not be nearly so impressive.

Better Days plans to use the Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation donation to help implement low-cost spay/neuter and medical care programs during the first few months of 2011. Because of the measures they’ve implemented and their unflagging commitment to creating happily-ever-after stories for both dogs and cats, awarding them this financial grant was our special holiday pleasure.
