On April 27th, a massive storm system spawned over 180 tornadoes across the southeastern U.S., cutting a swathe of damage, injuries and death. The majority of the destruction occurred in Alabama, where tornados reached strengths of F4 and F5, the most destructive possible. Nearly 4,000 businesses were shuttered due to extensive damage. The full extent of the devastation is difficult to comprehend.

On the outskirts of Westby, a sparsely populated, rural town in Western Wisconsin, lies one of America’s great treasures … Tabby Town USA, a small animal rescue group that brings solace to the forgotten.

What began as a rescue for Weimaraners now accepts all dogs, but focuses their energies on saving large and giant breeds from certain death. Located in Palm Beach County, FL, Big Dog Ranch Rescue offers a true last line of defense for hundreds of souls, burdened by illness, neglect and despair. In fact, many of their canine residents are saved hours – even minutes – before they are slated for euthanasia at area shelters. It is for these reasons, and many others, that the Dr. Jane HealthyPetNet Foundation has selected this noble organization as the latest recipient of a financial award.

Our charitable non-profit has awarded a financial grant to the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network (NBRAN), a dedicated organization devoted to saving the lives of abandoned American Brittanies both in the U.S. and Canada. A network of foster-care volunteers, NBRAN is comprised of individuals who work passionately on behalf of this lovable breed.

Dachshund Rescue views any successful animal rescue as one with the “patience and understanding” to oversee all of the steps of adoption, in order to give dogs a “second chance at a wonderful life”. And they have done more than just give Dachshunds a fighting chance; in fact, in their first two years of operation, they have saved the lives of over 200 doxies!

We are so pleased to bring you the news that The Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation has granted a financial award to Golden Rescue South Florida. This award will be used to help rescued Golden Retrievers receive the veterinary treatment they need and deserve.

The Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation takes pride in the hard work of all its grant recipients, but the Palmetto Animal League (PAL) represents the best and noblest of rescue enterprises. PAL boasts a remarkable success rate of placement – nearly 100% – with the average time a pet is fostered at less than four months. In the true spirit of caring, nurturing and rescue, they work to avoid euthanasia at all costs. To their minds, there is no other option than to keep a dog or a cat as long as it takes to find them a forever home.

Founded in 2003, HART for Animals seeks to become “a model for compassionate animal rescue”. We feel that they’ve done a commendable job organizing individual volunteers who specialize in placing animals abandoned at local shelters with foster parents until forever homes can be located. By taking in pets from the Garrett County Animal Shelter and the Garrett County Humane Society, they have saved hundreds of animals who otherwise would probably have been euthanized. Further, HART oversees the transfer of homeless dogs and cats from areas of low inhabitance to more populous cities in an effort to increase the likelihood of long-term adoption.
