NOTE: NO LIFE'S ABUNDANCE PET FOODS ARE INVOLVED IN THIS FDA REPORT OR DCM IN DOGS.

In July of last year, the FDA's investigation of consumer reports concerning an increase in the number of incidents of a heart disease called canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The dogs did not have a predisposition to DCM but they did frequently eat dog foods containing peas, lentils and other legume seeds or potatoes as main ingredients.

The FDA has updated their investigation into the DCM in dogs and named 16 brands eaten by dogs involved in the official report. Only brands named 10 or more times are in this list while some reports listed multiple brands and other listed none.

I have used Life Abundance for years and never had a problem.  I am concerned that the recent FDA report mentions a possible link between DCM and GRAIN FREE formulas.  I just switched my lab from Puppy formula to LA Adult grain free and am concerned about the peas, chickpeas, potato ingredients.  Should grain free be avoided for now until more info comes out?  Thank you

Is Life's Abundance Per Food packages in oxygen barrier packaging?  (In other words does it have intended perforations on the sides to be able to be stacked on store shelves more easily). I want a dog food where the volatile fats are not exposed to oxygen, as they very rapidly go rancid and it's a big problem with kibble dog foods.
Thank you in advance for your response, I'm looking for a pet food that has packaging that won't allow it to get oxidized.
    Sincerely,
    Jody Johnson

Because we make our foods in frequent batches, control the inventory in our own warehouses and ship directly to customers, food will often reach you pretty quickly after the date it was made. That said, all of our foods are guaranteed all the way through to the Best Fed date printed on each bag. This includes the premium quality of our nutrition, safety and everything on the guaranteed analysis.

Venting systems on bags are necessary, and the micro-perf design you refer to is common. We use a system called a tortuous path vent. There is a small vent tucked behind a fold at the bottom of each bag. The material we use provides an excellent oxygen barrier, and we recommend keeping food in the original packaging for storage. Here are some storage tips, in case you'd like more information. intercom.help/.../1759998-what-s-the-best-way-to-store-kibble
