Foundation Delivers Truckload of Aid to Animal Shelter

Dr Jane FoundationWhen one of Florida’s newest animal rescue organizations took in sixteen abused dogs from out-of-state, they found themselves in dire and immediate need of supplies. Fortunately, the Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation was ready and willing to lend a helping hand.

Subjected to physical and mental abuse in a North Carolina product-testing laboratory, the dogs came to Palm Beach County after an undercover investigation publicized their plight. The laboratory closed, turning over all of the nearly 200 animals used in experiments to various East Coast humane agencies, including Wellington’s In Dog We Trust (IDWT). Founded by Nicole Brown, IDWT is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter that opened just this summer on the 20-acre property of what used to be the Folke Peterson Wildlife Center, a wildlife sanctuary shuttered in 2009.

Once known only by the codes tattooed on their bodies, sixteen Beagles now call IDWT their temporary home and are now christened with proper names. It may be weeks before the dogs are made available for adoption, as they begin to recover from their traumas, learn basic skills and become accustomed to human companionship. Their caretakers estimate that most of the Beagles are only two years old.

We won’t delve into the most disturbing of the details of their existence in the lab. Suffice it to say, they have been subjected to sickening brutality and utter neglect. According to IDWT, the first time these dogs saw sunlight was upon their release from their institutionalized mistreatment.

To assist IDWT in their efforts to provide the loving care these beleaguered Beagles deserve, the Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation literally stepped up to the plate with a substantial contribution. On September 28th, Dr. Jane Bicks arrived at IDWT’s office to present 800 pounds of Life’s Abundance Premium Health Food for Puppies and Adult Dogs. This gift of charity will significantly help to offset the shelter’s increased financial obligation to provide much-needed care to all of the rescued Beagles.

“We’re all pet people here,” said Lester Thornhill, CEO of Life’s Abundance, Inc. “When we learned about the conditions these animals had endured, we felt we had to act immediately, to help this shelter provide for their care. Fortunately, our foundation had the resources to fund a sizeable donation of food. We’d do it again in a heartbeat.”

Ann

The capacity for human cruelty and disregard for animals sickens me. But then there are amazing souls, like the people from Life's Abundance  who perform miracles in everyday life that prove there is goodness all around.  I'm also proud to be associated with Life's Abundance.  Thank you.
