Scores of Dogs Dropped Off at Local Shelter; Trilogy Heeds Call for Assistance

Monday, 26 October 2009 12:54 by Trilogy

Palm City, Florida – When the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County issued a public plea for assistance, after their dog population doubled in a single day, a company headquarted in Palm City stepped up to the plate … literally.

Seventy-five Chihuahuas and one Pug were dropped off at the shelter on October 19th, when a local breeder hit hard by the economy determined she could no longer operate her business.

Trilogy International heeded the Society’s call for donations, providing more than 300 pounds of Life’s Abundance Premium Health Food for Puppies & Adult Dogs and Life’s Abundance Weight-Loss Formula for Adult Dogs and 46 pounds of Gourmet Dental Treats – Honey Peanut Butter Recipe.   The charitable giving helped to offset the shelter’s projected $30,000 shortfall in providing much-needed care to all of the animals.

“We’re all pet people here at Trilogy,” said Lester Thornhill, CEO of Trilogy International. “When we learned about the shelter’s need, we felt we had to act immediately. We’d do it again in a heartbeat.”

All of the dogs, ranging in age from several years to just a few days old, received immediate veterinary attention. South Floridians interested in taking home these purebreds will have to wait another week to do so, but the shelter is encouraging any interested parties to visit soon before all the purebred dogs are adopted.

Trilogy is no stranger to giving back to the community. In 2007, Trilogy established a non-profit agency, The Dr. Jane HealthyPetNet Foundation, which awards financial grants on a quarterly basis to small- to medium-sized adoption agencies. While the foundation did not directly donate the foods and treats, they have donated tens of thousands of dollars to similarly worthwhile agencies located in South Florida and all over America.

Life’s Abundance and other premium pet products are available for purchase through a network of distributors throughout the country. If you’re interested in becoming an independent Field Representative for Trilogy, we encourage you to visit our “Opportunity” link at www.trilogyonline.com today.

This is certainly good news and bad news.  The bad news is that as certain breeds of dogs become popular...in this case the Taco Bell chihuahua...breeders overpopulate the breed primarily as a way of earning income rather than for the love of the breed. The economy has made responsible people think twice about spending money to acquire a dog.

The good news about this case is that we can be proud of Dr. Jane Bicks and Trilogy coming forward to assist these stressed animals with high quality nutrition until they find their forever homes.

Living in the moment,

I congratulate you on your kind assistance.  Hope that breeder (obviously a puppy farmer) never gets enough money to start again.

Good evening:
Wow I am astounded at the number of dogs! 75 Chihuahaus! I am sorry but no "good" breeder has that many animals at one time! I know a few breeders, registered with the CKC and such and no way ever did they have that amount of dogs.
If you are "exporting" some to Canada, I would be more than happy to help out. I don't have a credit card so I can't do a donation, sorry about that, but fly a couple to Victoria BC and I will help out.Smile
I have two Chi pups, siblings now 11 months and two Bostons, cousins, 5 years old.
Thank you for taking these wonder four legged fur kids in and now finding the all forever homes. Hats off to you.
Remember, Victoria is a nice place to live

I am so very happy to hear that Trilogy has stepped forward and given so much charitable donation to the HS at Vero Beach. It makes "me and my family" very happy to be doing business with such a responsible company that not only creates and promotes healthy pet foods, offers great service and ease of ordering shopping and delivery. I got introduced to trilogy through Bark Busters of South Florida approximately a year ago and can whole heartedly tell you that even more so after this story, will be staying with them and their products, knowing that a portion of what I pay for their products goes to a worthy cause. Well Done Trilogy.

What a shame.I have a Chihuahaus-Jack Russell mix "MoMo" and love her dearly.Every puppy and dog deserves a loving owner.I would love to have a mate for her but am unsure how to go about it.
Let's pray this breeder NEVER operate's again.Sounds like some form of abuse to me.The poor little darlings! How could you not love one just look at the sweetness of there face.
I live in Tennessee if there is anyway to adopt one PLEASE let me know how.
Trilogy you are so kind and genurous, what a sweet thing you have done.A wonderful company!!!

My little 'boys' are loving and obidient. It's like they have been with me for a long time. They sleep with me in my bed. They demand my attention. They play together like two little puppies, although the are 4 and 5 years old neutered males.
I want only the best for them, since loosing my two previous adopties to molestation of a mad dog in the street, and the other to untreatable diabetis, I was heart-broken and swore I would never get another dog. But the house was so empty and I started searching on the Internet and found these two little fellows that had been turned over to a shelter, because the present owner had too many children. What happened to spaying and neutering of human beings?
I'm a disabled person because of two hip-replacements. I try to take them for walks, but most of the the time my husband does the duties.
We both love the little guys and only want the best for them. We're on a limited income (Social Security), and after spending thousands of dollars for our little diabetis "girl", it's kind of hard to take care of these guys, but we shall keep on doing what we can to keep them healthy.

You all are wonderful for all the great assistance you have provided to these dogs in needs.

I have been a Life's Abundance user for almost 3 years now.  Not only is it a great dog food, but I am thrilled to support an organization that also assists those in need.

Many thanks for your great work !!!
